客家人 ke-jia-ren (Hakka) translates to: ke- guest, jia - home, ren - people.
Hakka people, originally from Southern China, fled mainland China in the 19th century for India, seeking safety from wars and better opportunities. Many eventually settled down in a neighborhood called Tangra in Calcutta, West Bengal, which is now the hub of the Chinese community now known as “Tangra Chinatown”. When Hakka people migrated to Tangra, the majority of the families ran a leather business in their tanneries. After years of learning and mastering the craft of leather making, the government unfortunately ordered a shut down of these factories. That is when many of the affected families ventured into the restaurant business where they blend Chinese cooking techniques with local Indian spices and herbs to form the infamous fusion of, Indian Hakka Cuisine, we know of today.
China Palace Courtneypark is run by the Huang family, consisting of the mother, father, and their three sons: Steve, Daniel and Jason. Each of them specialize in different departments of keeping the restaurant running, from cooking our special homemade sauces, to marinating fresh ingredients and everything in between. As a family run business, we hope to be remembered as the most authentic Indian Hakka restaurant, as we continue to use our great grandparents’ recipes. We cook with love and passion for the food we all hold close to our hearts, and wish Mississauga and its surrounding neighbours enjoys it as much as we do.
Visited the palace after watching a movie, came home expecting to have it all by myself + some leftovers for tomorrow. My dad stole some from, but I still have enough leftovers for tomorrow! Delicious 😋!!
Tried this place after catching a movie nearby and this place has one of the best tasting indo-chinese dishes. The chicken pakora was very surprising, delicious and definitely a must try. We took the 5 piece and the pieces were huge! We tried the spicy garlic entree which comes with a serving a rice. Quantity is good. Although it was not spicy, the taste was exceptional!
“Was pleasantly surprised with this place. Went in on a whim and found good service with decent food. Will be back to try more of the menu."
